Key Network Flow Map Capability: Link Aggregation for Optimizing Network Monitoring Tools
The need to monitor expanding volumes of 10 Gbps traffic is straining CAPEX budgets due to the high cost of 10G monitoring tools. The iLink Agg xStream helps you leverage your monitoring tool investments by:
The iLink Agg xStream is a high-performance link aggregator that combines traffic from many network links or Span ports and sends it to monitoring tools. Each of its 24 SFP+ ports accepts both 10G SFP+ and 1G-SFP transceivers, enabling 10G and 1G links, Span ports, and monitoring appliances to interconnect in any mix of speeds, including different fiber and copper media types. This capability protects your investment, because the iLink Agg xStream enables you to apply your existing arsenal of 1G monitoring tools to your new 10G traffic links. You can aggregate the traffic from multiple 1G links and low-utilization 10G links to fill up the bandwidth of expensive 10G tools.
High Availability with State Synchronization
As the Network becomes critical for achieving business success, SLAs continue to demand near 100% uptime. xBalancer—like all three products in the xStream Family—delivers High Availability (HA) features to provide continuous monitoring visibility to your tools. State synchronization allows for two units to be deployed in a HA configuration to exchange globals, link fault date, device timeDate zone, filter rules, heartbeat and load balancing group settings. Customers can deploy fully redundant security and monitoring tools in both in-line and out-of-band configurations—even if those tools were not designed with high availability features of their own.
Increased Control of Security Monitoring with Flexible Port Mapping
The iLink Agg xStream supports fully configurable port mapping, so it can support many different configurations.
Any port can function as a network port or a monitor port. Using simplex cables you can effectively double your ports to support 48 connections: 24 network inputs and 24 tool outputs. The network inputs can be connected to external Taps or switch Span ports.
Improve Network Security Management with Network Statistics
Boost Network Intelligence with dozens of statistics. Key statistics include packet size distribution, priority level distribution, unicast, broadcast, multicast, IPv4, and IPv6. Wonder how much IPv6 traffic you have on your network? Just check the IPv6 statistics counters. All statistics can be exported as CSV files from the WebUI or via SNMP.
The management software provides a WebUI and command-line interface (CLI) for setting iLinkAgg xStream parameters and checking status and traffic statistics with a few keystrokes. The CLI can be accessed locally through an RS232 serial port, or remotely with a secure SSH connection. SNMPv3, v2, and v1 are also supported.
Security and Reliability Features for Simpler IT Management
The iLink Agg xStream is a secure and reliable appliance that delivers unsurpassed monitoring access flexibility. It handles network traffic entirely in hardware, so there is no software to be loaded, maintained, or compromised. The secure embedded management firmware does not disrupt the network data path. Configuration variables can be changed only through the device’s management port, so your monitoring access is immune to viruses, worms, and other attacks that pass through the iLink Agg xStream network ports. The iLink Agg xStream maintains its configuration when power is absent, making it a true appliance.
High Availability with State Synchronization Ensures Network Monitoring Uptime
As the Network becomes critical for achieving business success, SLAs continue to demand near 100% uptime. iLink Agg xStream—like all three products in the xStream Family—delivers High Availability (HA) features to provide continuous monitoring visibility to your tools. State synchronization allows for two units to be deployed in a HA configuration to mirror all configuration changes. A configuration change (e.g., adding a filter) made on one iLink Agg xStream is immediately mirrored to the other iLink Agg xStream, making sure that the two iLink Agg xStreams remain in sync all the time.Customers can deploy fully redundant security and monitoring tools in both in-line and out-of-band configurations—even if those tools were not designed with high availability features of their own.
Dual Power Supplies
The iLink Agg xStream has two independent power supplies that provide fault tolerance: If one power supply loses power, the unit continues operating on the remaining supply. The power supply modules are hot swappable, so your monitoring capability does not need to be interrupted if a power supply needs replacement. Both universal AC and -48VDC (Telco) models are available.
