Metaswitch PSTN Emulation Subsystem App Server (PES-AS)
The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is ready to deliver on its promise of all-IP telephony, transitioning operators from being facilities-based to being true software telcos, while protecting their investment in transmission equipment and maintaining service continuity. As part of an IMS solution, Metaswitch’s PES Application Server is a critical component in the evolution of the telco network and the march towards network functions virtualization (NFV).
An Application Server (AS) in a PSTN Emulation Subsystem (PES) enables an IMS network to deliver an exact implementation of local telephony over POTS, precisely matching the functions offered by legacy Class 5 switches down to the last detail.
Metaswitch’s PES-AS is the result of more than a decade’s experience helping service providers to build next-generation and IMS networks, enabling you to migrate your TDM network to VoIP and IMS in complete confidence.
It supports all the Class 5 local calling features that your residential and business subscribers expect.
Equivalent service is provided for any kind of phone and on any type of network connection: from black phones connected to POTS lines to VoIP phones connected via SIP over broadband. This ensures that your subscribers enjoy the same set of local calling features and the same consistent user interface.
The Metaswitch PES-AS is a powerful and flexible solution for PSTN emulation in IMS architectures.
The IMS compatible Charging Trigger Function in the PES-AS generates billing events for calls and sends them over an Rf or Ro interface to a Charging Collection Function in your IMS network, where they can be collated and converted into accurate and reliable Call Detail Records.
Unique software + standard hardware = flexibility
Architected as a pure software solution, Metaswitch’s advanced PES-AS is not dependent on any proprietary equipment. Deployed as standard on high-performance commercial off-the-shelf ATCA hardware, or available to install on your choice of generic server, the PES-AS is easy to install and maintain, and can scale for the future.
As big as you want, as reliable as you need
High-performance clustering enables the PES-AS to scale to 10M subscribers and 20M BHCA. A fully redundant system architecture allows the PES-AS to retain full operational capability in the event of an individual component fault, and geo-redundancy protects against regional failures.
For peace of mind, when the PES-AS is combined with the Metaswitch Universal Media Gateway, the Emergency Standalone (ESA) function preserves your service with basic call control functions during critical network outages between the UMG and its controlling PES-AS.
