Intel Open Network Platform Server
Intel® Open Network Platform Server Reference Design (Intel® ONP Server Reference Design) is a platform-level reference architecture designed to make it easier for integrators and service providers to develop and deploy software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) solutions.
Intel worked closely with industry partners, including server OEMs, operating system vendors, network appliance vendors, and industry standards bodies to develop Intel ONP Server Reference Design. This hardware and software reference architecture is a framework that delivers the many benefits of Intel® architecture to SDN and NFV.
Based on Intel Architecture
Intel® ONP Server Reference Design is based on industry-standard Intel® Xeon® processors, 10 Gigabit and 40 Gigabit Intel® Ethernet Controllers, and Intel® acceleration technologies to deliver a familiar, reliable, and cost-effective virtualized network platform.
Broad Compatibility and Flexibility Through Open Source
Intel ONP Server Reference Design supports key open source software initiatives, including OpenStack*, OpenFlow*, Open vSwitch*, and OpenDaylight*, which helps ensure compatibility across a wide range of applications and virtual appliances.
Technologies including Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK), Intel DPDK optimized Open vSwitch, Intel® QuickAssist Technology, and HyperScan are key elements of the Intel ONP Server Reference Design and help significantly improve virtual network appliance throughput on Intel architecture-based systems.
Intel is working with our SDN and NFV ecosystem partners to produce products based on the Intel ONP Server Reference Design reference architecture and to continue improving the performance, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness of these designs.
