Brocade MLX Series
Brocade MLX Series routers are designed to enable cloud-optimized core networks by providing high-density 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 40 GbE, and10 GbE; rich IPv4, IPv6, Multi-VRF, MPLS, and Carrier Ethernet capabilities; advanced Layer 2 switching; and OpenFlow.
Built with a state-of-the-art, sixth-generation programmable architecture and terabit-scale switch fabrics; the Brocade MLX Series has a proven heritage with more than 10,000 routers deployed worldwide. With the Brocade MLX Series at the core of mission-critical cloud data centers, service providers and enterprises can meet massive bandwidth demands, achieve greater virtualization, and provide high-value cloud-based services using less infrastructure—thereby simplifying operations and reducing costs. Carriers, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), transit providers, and high-performance research networks rely on these routers for their backbone networks to meet skyrocketing traffic requirements and reduce the cost per bit. Moreover, the Brocade MLX Series can reduce complexity in large enterprise campus networks by collapsing core and aggregation layers, as well as providing connectivity between sites using MPLS/VPLS.
The fully programmable architecture of the Brocade MLX Series is based on the Brocade VersaScale Packet Processor and provides maximum service flexibility and investment protection for quickly evolving technologies such as Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The processor is designed to enable service innovation by increasing feature velocity without sacrificing performance. This ensures the network requires no forklift upgrade when new technologies and standards become available. The Brocade MLX 2×100 GbE, 4×40 GbE, 8×10 GbE, and 24×1 GbE modules have the VersaScale Packet Processor. The Brocade MLX 24×10 GbE module is built on the Brocade MaxScale Packet Processor, providing industry-leading 10 GbE router density. Brocade MaxScale technology is designed specifically for high-capacity data center core, data center interconnect, and campus core networks with massive memory and high-performance data paths.
SDN is a powerful new network paradigm designed for the world’s most demanding networking environments and promises breakthrough levels of customization, scale, and efficiency. The Brocade MLX Series enables SDN by delivering OpenFlow in hybrid mode. With Brocade hybrid mode, organizations can simultaneously deploy traditional routing with OpenFlow on the same network, system, and even all the way to the port level. This unique capability provides a pragmatic and seamless path to SDN by enabling network operators to integrate OpenFlow into existing networks, giving them the programmatic control offered by SDN for specific flows while the remaining traffic is routed as before. Brocade supports OpenFlow at scale for up to 128,000 flows in hardware and at line rate for 10 GbE, 40 GbE, and 100 GbE.
Designed for non-stop networking, the Brocade MLX Series delivers highly resilient and reliable networks. Multi-Chassis Trunking (MCT) provides more than 30 Tbps of dual-chassis bandwidth, full active/active routing links, and uninterrupted traffic flow in the event of node failover. Organizations can achieve high resiliency through fully redundant switch fabrics, management modules, power supplies, and cooling systems. And to further ensure network and application availability, the Brocade IronWare operating system features hitless management failover and software upgrades. Innovative Virtual Output Queuing architecture provides deep and effective buffers to help avoid packet drops that can occur due to the unpredictable and bursty traffic.
