B4N SwitchOS is the component of B4N Service Platform portfolio that provides high-speed data plane for SDN-enabled networks. The product is designed to provide the same user experience regardless of underlaying hardware architecture. Customer will always get the same functionality. Product could be integrated with broad range of OpenFlow-based Controllers that supports OF-CONFIG, while supporting the full stack of features defined in Open Networking Foundation (ONF) specifications.
It’s a multi-platform OpenFlow-switch that could be implemented either as DPDK-accelerated virtual switch on x86 compute nodes, or as OF-Agent for bare-metal switches:
B4N SwitchOS (for X86)
B4N SwitchOS for x86 is the high-performance virtual switch accelerated by Intel DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit) libraries in conjunction with Brain4Net’s architectural solutions and innovative algorithms. It significantly increases the performance of B4N SwitchOS compared with common virtual switch.
B4N SwitchOS is designed to reduce virtual network latency of OpenStack networking and enable OpenFlow on bare-metal switches to provide network services built for CSPs. Brain4Net had developed a technical approach that allows seamless integration of physical and virtual networks without leveraging any overlay technologies. To integrate B4N SwitchOS in OpenStack, the company develops type and mechanism drivers for OpenStack to enhance Neutron capabilities by implementing MPLS segmentation. This approach allows CSPs to integrate underlay network in DC, haul MPLS services to Virtual Machine and natively integrate Telco DC services with MPLS network.
B4N SwitchOS has many technology advantages comparing with most popular DPDK-accelerated open source vSwitch for OpenStack:
B4N SwitchOS (for bare-metal switches)
B4N SwitchOS for bare-metal switches is an OpenFlow agent for bare-metal switches with ONIE support, built on top of Debian / Ubuntu distrib accelerated by merchant’s SDK.
