Viasat introduces Amara-compatible, proprietary electronically steered antenna (ESA) terminal, Viasat Aera.

Viasat, Inc. has announced its next-generation in-flight connectivity solution for commercial aviation, Viasat Amara. This solution is bolstered by advancements in satellite network design and hardware, as well as a suite of digital products intended to provide scalable, high-speed connectivity for airline passengers.

Next-generation hardware innovation, Viasat Aera
Viasat Amara allows for optimized multi-network connectivity with a simple software upgrade on Viasat’s established terminal, already in use on over 3,000 aircraft worldwide.

Additionally, Viasat is developing the Viasat Aera terminal, which will facilitate simultaneous, dual-beam connections across various satellite orbits, aiming to enhance the in-flight connectivity experience without requiring extra hardware.

Anticipated to be ready for commercial service in 2028, upgrading to the Viasat Aera terminal is designed to be straightforward and quick, using existing infrastructure within the aircraft.

Unique passenger experiences, powered by multi-orbit
The roadmap for Viasat Amara emphasizes innovations that leverage capabilities across GEO, HEO, and LEO satellites, including new partnerships to expand capacity.

This initiative aims to provide airlines with high-capacity, reliable service that scales with growing passenger demands while offering competitive pricing for onboard services.
