The U.S. Army has awarded L3Harris Technologies nearly $300 million in full-rate production orders for the Manpack and Leader radio as part of the Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit (HMS) program.

These orders aim to enhance resilient communication solutions for U.S. soldiers, ensuring interoperability from tactical edge to aerial support across various operational environments, particularly in the face of electronic warfare threats. “Effective, resilient communication dictates the operations tempo, and our solutions support the required comms-on-the-move to enable Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control,” stated Sam Mehta, President of Communication Systems at L3Harris. He emphasized that their systems provide commanders with vital capabilities to adapt to modern battlefield threats.

The L3Harris AN/PRC-158 and AN/PRC-163 radios can switch between secure levels of encryption, facilitating cooperation with coalition partners and meeting the latest standards for Communications Security and Transmission Security.

This award builds upon orders received earlier in 2023, totaling over $247 million. Additionally, L3Harris has been selected to provide Mobile User Objective System-capable AN/PRC-158 radios for the Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft and the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in support of the Air-to-Ground Networking Radio program.
