Rubrik unveiled its umbrella product – Security Cloud, which integrates the vendor’s data resiliency, observability, and recovery capabilities into one platform to secure data across enterprise, cloud, and software-as-a-service (SaaS). 

“World of the CISO and the CIO are colliding,” Rubrik Chief Product Officer Anneka Gupta told SDxCentral. When an event such as a ransomware attack hits, the two teams have to collaborate. “So, where the Rubric Security Cloud’s focus is on how do we help organizations truly build resilience, observability, and recovery? How do we reduce the risk of that data within the organization and help people recover when a cyberattack happens?”

Through Rubrik Security Cloud, the vendor repositioned its product suite, which now has three components. Rubrik has been offering data protection services to make sure customers have a copy of their data, which becomes the data resilience pillar; then the vendor helps customers to understand and monitor data risk and use recommendations to improve their security posture, that’s the data observability pillar; and the last one is about data recovery, which helps organizations to recover their data in the case of an operational challenge or cyberattacks, Gupta explained. 

To make the platform easy to use, Rubrik also launched a Data Security Command Center as a landing page providing a data risk score for customers to quickly assess if their data is safe and capable of recovering from cyber attacks.

The center is able to “consume all of the insights that are coming out of the platform, and take action based on that, and remediate,” Gupta said. 

She also noted that the platform’s primary target audiences are the Global 2000 companies as they “have a lot of data that are fairly sophisticated in their approach to both IT and security.”

“These are the companies where we're seeing the real intersection of security and IT come together,” Gupta said, adding that the data security vendor also can support much smaller customers. 

Within the data observability portfolio, Rubrik added two new capabilities including ransomware strain identification and sensitive data discovery and classification for Microsoft 365. 

Those are built on the Rubrik Cloud Vault on Microsoft Azure. Announced last December, the cloud vault was designed to maintain recoverable copies of critical data in an isolated and secure cloud location.

This partnership is based on a strategic agreement between the two companies to fight ransomware and integrate cloud security services, which included a Microsoft equity investment in Rubrik. 

“We have a multi-year roadmap that we continue to develop with them across many of their business units — across Azure, across 365, Teams, across what they're doing within their own security portfolio” as more Rubrik customers are moving their compute to Azure, Gupta said.

She added that the two companies will introduce more joint services this winter. 

On the other hand, Rubrik does not limit its Security Cloud services to Azure. As customers are using multi-cloud, the vendor can protect data that’s sitting in any of their clouds, Gupta said.

“We've taken an approach of what can we do with Microsoft first, but we certainly have roadmap, ideas, and items, and things that we're developing, especially around like cloud-native protection for IaaS and PaaS workloads within AWS, and to some extent GCP as well,” she said.
