Environmental, social and governance (ESG) might not be as big of a corporate talking point as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the issues that spurred the ESG buzz remain – and plenty of companies are hiring  for analysts and leaders in addition to the more obvious titles such as Chief Sustainability Officer. Whether you’ve always been passionate about environmental and social issues or you’re looking to transition to a more impact-based role, here are a few green jobs to watch out for in 2024, according to LinkedIn. .

Environmental analyst
Annual average salary: $123,000

Also known as sustainability analysts, these professionals evaluate their organization’s ESG efforts and look for opportunities to improve efficiency, positive social impacts and responsible use of resources, among other tasks.

Environmental analysts are familiar with sustainability reporting processes and requirements, Corporate Social Responsibility and data analysis. These analysts make an average of $123,000 a year.

Industries like business and consulting services, real estate and food/beverage manufacturing are most interested in hiring sustainability analysts, according to LinkedIn data. At time of publication, Chipotle, Volvo Group and the Washington, D.C. Housing Authority are all in the market for sustainability analysts.

Most environmental analyst jobs are located in New York City, Chicago and Atlanta. The median number of years of experience is 2.6, and a majority of current sustainability analysts transitioned from project manager, research assistant or environmental specialist roles.

Diversity and inclusion leadership
Annual average salary: $242,000

While this role may masquerade under any number of possible titles, business leaders focused on diversity, equity and inclusion (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) work to create inclusive environments for employees and customers. The functions of this job often revolve around designing and implementing DE&I policies, programming and outreach.

Nonprofit organizations, higher education, and civic and social organizations are the industries most likely to be hiring for DE&I leadership roles. The Denver Broncos, S&P Global and Chanel are just a few of the names vying for top DE&I talent, with an average salary of $242,000.

Most job openings for this role are in New York City, Washington, D.C.-Baltimore, and Chicago. The median number of years of prior experience is 4.3-5.4, and most VPs or directors of DE&I transitioned from roles in human resources, academia, or had already been involved with diversity and inclusion, according to LinkedIn’s report.
