Red Sift has been named the recommended certificate monitoring service for Let’s Encrypt, the leading certificate authority worldwide. This partnership allows Let’s Encrypt users to access Red Sift Certificates Lite, a free tool designed to help monitor certificate expirations and mitigate potential downtime.

Josh Aas, Executive Director of Let’s Encrypt, stated, “Millions of people rely on Let's Encrypt to secure their website connections and that number is growing since our service is free and automated. Certificates Lite, the new service from Red Sift, is intended to improve the options available to individuals and organizations for monitoring certificates, including and beyond expiration notices.”

Expired certificates can lead to significant service disruptions, with organizations recording an average of three certificate-related outages over the past two years. These outages can cost businesses up to $9,000 per minute, highlighting the critical need for effective management solutions. However, 62% of organizations reportedly lack visibility into their certificate management.

The urgency for enhanced monitoring comes as industry standards tighten, enforcing shorter certificate lifespans. From 2024, many browsers and certificate authorities are implementing durations as limited as six days, necessitating more frequent renewals. Additionally, regulations like those from the Payment card industry (PCI) require organizations to inventory all certificates by March 31, 2025.

Ivan Ristic, Chief Scientist at Red Sift, observed, “The shift toward shorter certificate lifecycles represents a necessary evolution in PKI to strengthen internet security, but it also increases operational complexity for organizations. By leveraging our innovation and knowledge, Red Sift is equipping users with the tools they need to navigate these changes seamlessly.”

Red Sift Certificates Lite features proactive monitoring tools, including email alerts for expirations, discovery of all certificates related to an organization’s domains, and a unified inventory for managing up to 250 certificates.

Rahul Powar, CEO of Red Sift, remarked, “With our expertise in proactive monitoring and management, users can prevent downtime and strengthen trust in their digital infrastructure, furthering our shared commitment to a safer, more secure internet.” The service is available for free to all users.
