Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Reach Mobile and Cell Phones For Soldiers are partnering to launch a new veterans-specific mobile service that will include free service for a limited time.

The companies are launching the Cell Phones For Soldiers Mobile [powered by Reach] running on Verizon's 5G network. "Eligible veterans" will receive six-months of free wireless service, including 1 gigabyte of high-speed mobile data and unlimited calling and texting within the United States, plus a free cell phone. The service provider will support this offer by donating 10% of its monthly revenues to the program.

The service will initially be available in Boston, where Reach Mobile is based. After the pilot program, it will open the service to the broader military community and supporters.

“Our mission since 2004 has been helping active-duty service members and veterans stay connected to their loved ones. While that need remains, it looks different in 2022 than it did in our early days," Cell Phones For Soldiers Founder Rob Bergquist stated in the release. “Launching our own mobile service marks the next-era of how we meet that need, because we can simultaneously support veterans and engage military supporters in the mission."

Cell Phones For Soldiers has recycled more than 25 million cell phones, using donated cell phones to purchase international calling cards for troops. The organization claims it has mailed more than 2,500 calling cards per week over the past 10 years.
