Quest Software updated its software-defined secondary storage (SDSS) QoreStore platform to help organizations deal with disaster recovery across major cloud provider environments.

QoreStore 6.0 features support for cloud services that work across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) storage platforms. Updates include compression, backup-vendor agnostic deduplication technology, and access to encryption technologies designed to keep data secure whether in-flight or at rest.

The update also introduces a new Performance Tier accelerating backup, which provides double the recovery point objectives (RPO) that support instant recovery without impacting storage space, compression, or de-duplication.

This update follows the company's introduction of its Foglight Container Management platform that provides real-time and historical analytics of containers and hosts across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.

Competition in the Cloud

Gartner forecasts that more than 80% of enterprise data will be stored in scale-out storage systems in enterprise and cloud data centers by 2021, up from 30% in 2017. Quest is one of many SDSS companies fighting for a piece of that market.

One of those rivals is Rubrik, which provides automated data backup, recovery, search, cloud, and development services across cloud and on-premises environments. Its Alta platform extends native data management and protection to more cloud-native workloads — specifically AWS EC2 workloads and traditional IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris environments.
