Quantum Corporation has announced significant scalability enhancements to its Myriad all-flash file system, making it the first solution to offer incremental in-place scaling with dynamic data leveling. These advancements aim to provide greater flexibility for users as they adapt to evolving storage needs, especially within AI contexts.

The updated features allow customers to start with just five NVMe Storage Server nodes, expanding seamlessly and without downtime, enhancing storage availability while maintaining performance. Users can achieve up to 80% usable capacity even at the initial deployment stage, with plans to expand to 20 nodes and enable virtually unlimited scalability in subsequent releases.

Quantum is positioning these enhancements as a response to the increasing demand for flexible storage infrastructure in the face of growing data volume and complexity. The automatic data leveling feature ensures performance remains consistent as capacity increases, thereby preventing disruptions during scaling. This approach eliminates the need for disruptive upgrades and allows organizations to adjust their storage solutions to match business growth dynamically.

CEO Jason Turner of Entanglement, Inc. highlighted the importance of these features, emphasizing the need for continuous operation without interruptions to support advanced AI and deep learning capabilities. Quantum's Technical Director Ben Jarvis noted the unique architecture of Myriad, which is designed for high capacity and reliability in data sharing for critical applications.

The Myriad system will now also support high-density drives, enabling substantial increases in data storage efficiency, with new options up to 122.88 TB. The integration of technologies such as 400 GbE RDMA infrastructure will further bolster performance, while the enhanced system is expected to significantly reduce rack space and operational costs due to its density and data reduction capabilities.

Scheduled for availability in the second half of 2025, these new features reflect Quantum’s commitment to providing scalable, cutting-edge storage solutions suitable for organizations looking to innovate and optimize their data management practices.
