ProLabs unveiled a line of long-haul transceivers the vendor claims can transmit signals across distances equivalent to travelling from London to Edinburgh five times.

The Amphenol-owned vendor unveiled 800 Gb/s (800G) and 400 Gb/s (400G) optical transceivers designed to extend the reach of national and cross-continental infrastructure for carriers, service-providers, and large-scale backbone operators.

ProLabs notes its transceivers boast up to 30 repeater hops, which extend the transmission distance of a signal, equating to around 1490 miles of supported distance. That's compared to rival 400G offerings that ProLabs claims support around six repeater hops.

Its high-speed modules are also compatible with standard quad small form-factor pluggable double density (QSFP-DD) ports, meaning operators can deploy them as part of existing infrastructure platforms without the need to alter existing hardware.

“By reducing the need for additional infrastructure while still maintaining long-distance performance, we're helping operators lower both capital and operational expenditure,” ProLabs Europe, Middle East, and Africa Sales Director Stefan Löhmann noted. “Combined with our commitment to interoperability and availability, these new transceivers provide operators with an open, standards-based alternative to proprietary optical networking solutions.”

The product launch follows hot on the heels of ProLabs debuting a 1.6 Tb/s (1.6T) transceiver for data center connectivity. The transceiver houses 224G signaling per lane to support scaling computing architectures. The vendor also unveiled a line of 1.6T direct attach cables designed to provide connections for high-speed networking environments.
