Orange today acquired the U.K.-based security company SecureData for an undisclosed amount. This purchase is part of the global provider’s bigger push to boost its Cyberdefense unit.

The independently operated SecureData has offered managed security services for over 25 years. The company says that its annual revenue reached $65.5 million in 2019, and that it has been growing at an annual rate of about 20 percent. It offers around 50 services including penetration testing, application assessment, managed threat detection, hunting, and firewall.

SecureData has one Security Operations Center (SOC) and three data centers, all located in the U.K. This builds upon Orange’s existing nine SOCs. Orange’s existing Security Operations Centers provide security engineering, management, analysis, and event monitoring to detect cyber attacks and attempts at fraud.

Orange will also acquire SensePost, which is SecureData’s security consulting arm. In addition to offering consulting services, SensePost conducts security research and does penetration testing. The purchase of both units will expand Orange’s capabilities in Europe.

SecureData’s 200 employees and management will continue to operate independently alongside Orange’s Cyberdefense division.

Orange offers end-to-end managed security services for a wide range of use cases. This includes security offerings for data centers, remote sites, the internet, and endpoints, as well as network security, mobile threat protection, identity management, and end-user security.

The purchase of SecureData will expand the reach of Orange's global security offerings. Currently, Orange Cyberdefense operates in France and Belgium. Secure Data has offices in both South Africa and across the U.K.

This is Orange’s first acquisition in the security space. Last year, it snapped up and Northern European cloud business Basefarm Holdings for $410 million and an e-health software company Envocom to boost its healthcare technology unit.
