O2 Tower
– O2 Telefónica

O2 Telefónica Germany is launching an agentic AI solution in partnership with Tech Mahindra and Nvidia.

Based on a custom telecom large language model (LLM) developed by IT giant Tech Mahindra, O2 Telefónica’s large telco model (LTM) offering aims to apply AI to telecom operations.

According to the operator, this includes AI agents tailored for automated root-cause analysis, field dispatch optimization, and service experience management.

The release builds on Tech Mahindra’s LTM, which was unveiled in March. Developed using Nvidia AI Enterprise software and AWS cloud infrastructure, the multimodal release is based on Llama 3.1-8B-Instruct, a Meta LLM that boasts expanded context length, improved function-calling, and more efficient tool orchestration when compared to previous iterations.

With Tech Mahindra’s tool as its basis, O2 Telefónica’s LTM aims to put into practice the model’s push for telecom networks into intent-based and autonomous operations, processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data alongside relevant network information.

It joins other large telco model releases from SoftBank, as well as LTM frameworks from the GSMA and the Global Telecom AI Alliance (GTAA), which is made up of SK Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Singtel, and more.

In comparison, the O2 Telefónica LTS offers a more agent-first approach in go-to-market for telecoms, echoing a Nokia AI agent suite from this summer designed to help telecom operators manage their networks.

Outside of telecoms, agentic examples include Extreme Networks, which has released an agentic AI-focused network visualization offering, while Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) added agentic AI management capabilities to its GreenLake platform to provide root-cause analysis for network issues, similar to attributes touted in the O2 Telefónica LTM.
