Nokia is set to upgrade the communication network of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) by implementing its IP/MPLS technology, aiming to replace outdated systems and enhance safety and efficiency in air traffic management.

The transition from a legacy Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transport system to Nokia’s advanced networking solution is expected to bolster security and operational reliability in southern Vietnam. Scheduled to be operational in the second quarter of 2025, the new transport network will facilitate new applications to accommodate the rising air traffic demands.

This upgrade will provide an enhanced transmission system to the Air Traffic Control Center in Ho Chi Minh City, aligning with International Civil Aviation Organization standards. Nokia’s solution is designed to deliver improved analytics, simplify operations, and increase the overall performance of VATM’s network.

Ho Sy Tung, Deputy General Director at VATM, emphasized the importance of security and reliability in air traffic networks. He noted Nokia's extensive experience in air navigation and expressed confidence in the project’s positive impact.

Nguyen Van Nam, General Director at Advanced Network System Vietnam (ANSV), recognized ANSV's role as the prime contractor in delivering the new IP/MPLS network for air navigation systems.

Jonathan Goh, Head of Enterprise Business at Nokia, highlighted the expected enhancement in safety and operational efficiency of the air traffic network due to Nokia’s solutions, asserting the company’s commitment to the successful implementation of this project.
