Nokia has announced a partnership with CAMGSM PLC, known as Cellcard, to upgrade its fiber broadband network in Cambodia. The project involves migrating from GPON to XGS-PON technology using Nokia's Lightspan and Altiplano solutions, aimed at improving user experiences and delivering up to 10Gb/s internet speeds.
The upgraded network will enhance broadband services, enabling support for high-speed applications like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). This modernization will also increase the reliability and flexibility of Cellcard's fiber network and is designed to better meet evolving customer demands.
As part of the agreement, Nokia will provide Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) and the Altiplano Access Controller in major cities, including Phnom Penh and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) Reap. The cloud-native platform enables Cellcard to visualize, automate, and optimize its broadband services, while also preparing the network for future upgrades to 25G PON.
Asitha De Costa, ICT Division CIO at Cellcard, stated, “We are dedicated to delivering a best-in-class network experience to our customers, especially as data consumption continues to rise. We are collaborating with Nokia to enhance the residential broadband experience of our subscribers.”
Ajay Sharma, Head of South-East Asia North Sales at Nokia, remarked, “We remain committed to helping service providers transition to XGS-PON and automation to support growing demand. Our solutions will enable Cellcard to modernize its fiber broadband network and improve operational efficiency.”
This project further strengthens the partnership between Nokia and Cellcard as both companies work towards enhancing internet service delivery in Cambodia.
