NetApp has received validation for its new near-term science-based emissions reduction targets from the Science-based targets initiative (SBTI), reinforcing the company's commitment to sustainability.
The California-based company aims to reduce its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50.8% by FY2030, using FY2020 as a benchmark, while also targeting a 51.6% reduction in scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products per effective petabyte shipped, relative to FY2023. These goals are aligned with a 1.5°C trajectory, as categorized by the SBTI
NetApp's targets replace earlier decarbonization goals established in 2022, and the company has already achieved a 37% reduction in its scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to the 2020 baseline, according to its FY24 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Impact Report.
Nicola Acutt, Chief sustainability officer (CSO) at NetApp, emphasized the importance of innovation alongside sustainability, stating that the company integrates sustainable practices across its product and packaging designs. “For us, a sustainable digital future starts with data,” Acutt said.
Beyond its own goals, NetApp is helping its customers enhance their energy efficiency through its BlueXP platform, which includes a sustainability dashboard for actionable insights aimed at improving sustainability performance.
NetApp's progress can be monitored on the SBTI dashboard, highlighting its commitment to measurable climate action.
