Verizon Business, 5G Counter Consumer Calamity

Verizon reported disappointing third-quarter results tanked by its consumer offerings. But its enterprise-focused operations remain a bright spot, bolstered by growing demand for mobile edge and private 5G network services.

The carrier’s consumer wireless service bled customers during the quarter, though recent price hikes that were cited as a cause for those defections did help Verizon boost its overall revenues. That balance remains a tricky one for Verizon as its rivals AT&T and T-Mobile US have been able to grow both metrics. Read more.

Ericsson Q3 Results Show Ongoing Challenges

Ericsson reported disappointing third-quarter fiscal results that showed the vendor may be a market heavyweight but has a long way to go in order to solidify its operational stance. The earnings release was also its first following a broad corporate restructuring that marked what its leadership claimed was the next phase in the vendor’s long-simmering turnaround plans.

The restructuring resulted in Ericsson forming two big operating pillars: its Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions division focused on the enterprise market and its Business Area Cloud Software operations focused on its 5G core and software business. Read more.

Broadcom’s Hock Tan Confronts VMware Concerns

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan is attempting to reduce concerns that his company’s pending acquisition of VMware will crater that firm’s innovative and customer spirit, concerns raised by analysts and competing executives. This was a notion that overhung the recent VMware Explore 2022 event in San Francisco.

In a blog post, Tan noted that in recent visits to Broadcom customers, multicloud, cloud-native applications, and pricing have been the three topics “top of mind for customers as it relates to the VMware-Broadcom transaction.” Read more.
