Microsoft Buys ReFirm Labs for IoT Security Boost

Microsoft said it acquired IoT security ReFirm Labs for an undisclosed amount.

ReFirm built its firmware analysis technology on Binwalk open source software, the international standard for extracting firmware images used by more than 50,000 global organizations. It analyzes thousands of device types for firmware security issues including unpatched common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs) and insecure secrets, and Microsoft says this technology will boost its existing IoT and operational technology (OT) security capabilities via Azure Defender for IoT.

Illumio Hits $2.75B Valuation, Preaches Zero-Trust Gospel

Cybersecurity unicorn Illumio said it closed a $225 million Series F funding round that pushed its valuation to $2.75 billion.

The late-stage funding, led by Thoma Bravo with support from Franklin Templeton, funds managed by Hamilton Lane, and Blue Owl Capital division Owl Rock, brings the segmentation pioneer’s total raised to $557.5 million, and it gives Illumio founder and CEO Andrew Rubin plenty of new capital to spread the gospel of zero trust.

Less than three years after acquiring rival Hortonworks in a deal valued at more than $5 billion, enterprise data cloud provider Cloudera said it will be acquired by a pair of private investment firms for a similar amount. 

The global telecommunications equipment market remains on pace to jump up to 10% this year, generating as much as $100 billion in total revenue, according to Dell’Oro Group. 

Oracle’s revenues grew 8% year over year to $11.2 billion during the fourth fiscal quarter of 2021.

AT&T announced another major contract win with a U.S. government agency, this time a $725 million contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Exabeam closed a $200 million late-stage funding round on a $2.4 billion valuation.

oak9 secured a $5.9 million seed round to launch an infrastructure-as-code security platform.

Hitachi Vantara acquired Io-Tahoe, a smart data management company.

Egress acquired Aquilai, and is combining technologies to help strengthen Egress’ email security products.

Pluralsight announced it will acquire A Cloud Guru, a cloud skills development platform, later this year.

Sumo Logic signed an agreement to acquire Sensu to extend its open source strategy and broaden its observability suite. 

FireEye announced the sale of the FireEye Products business, along with the FireEye name, to Symphony Technology Group for $1.2 billion.

Syntax announced its acquisition of Illumiti. 

Unisys Corporation announced it has agreed to acquire Unify Square, an experience management provider, for $152.5 million.

Nintex acquired AssureSign, an electronic signature and digital transaction management software provider.

Deloitte announced its acquisition of CloudQuest, a cloud security posture management provider. Deloitte also acquired Terbium Labs, a digital risk protection company, to join Deloitte’s Detect & Respond offering suite.

Bain Capital Private Equity and Crosspoint Capital Partners acquired ExtraHop for $900 million.

Brinqa announced $110 million in growth funding to accelerate its risk-based cybersecurity technology.

Zenoti raised $80 million from TPG Capital as an extension to its Series D funding round. This investment increases Zenoti’s valuation to almost $1.5 billion.

Synopsys announced its acquisition of Code Dx.

Cisco announced its intent to acquire Involvio, which offers a suite of education-focused products.

Xilinx acquired Silexica to broaden its developer base.

SK Telecom’s board of directors approved a horizontal spin-off through which SK Telecom will become two separate companies: an artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure company, and an investment company. 

Equinix and GIC added $3.9 billion to expand its xScale data center program.

Accenture agreed to acquire umlaut, a German engineering consulting firm.

SentinelOne announced it will launch an initial public offering of 32 million shares of its Class A common stock. 

Elisity announced a Series A funding round totaling $26 million with contributing investors Two Bear Capital, AllegisCyber Capital, and Atlantic Bridge.

VIAVI announced a proposal to acquire EXFO at $7.50 per share, valuing EXFO at $430 million.

Claroty announced its Series D funding round closed with investments totaling $140 million.

Foundries.io raised $8 million in Series A funding from IQ Capital, Crane Venture Partners, and Backed VC. Foundries.io also announced its partnership with MontaVista.

Robocorp closed a $21 million Series A funding round with investments from Canvas Ventures, Benchmark, Uncorrelated Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others.

Moderne raised $4.7 million in Series A funding to bring the company’s SaaS product to market.

Lessen closed its Series A funding round with investments totaling $35 million.

Lightspin raised $16 million during its Series A funding round.

Vercel closed its Series C funding round with a total of $102 million in investments. 

WINSYSTEMS announced its partnership with Foundries.io, an open-OS provider, for lifetime deployment of secure Linux-based IoT and Edge devices.

PlanetScaled announced it raised $30 million in Series B funding.

Anjuna closed a $30 million Series B funding round, bringing its total investments to upwards of $42 million.

Accenture invested in Symmetry Systems, a cloud data security provider.

Fivetran announced its acquisition of Teleport Data. 

Wiz closed its Series B funding round with $120 million in investments from Salesforce Ventures and Blackstone with participation from Aglaé Ventures.

Macquarie Capital announced a partnership with Prime Data Centers.

Graylog announced an $18 million growth equity round.

Verizon signed a $495 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to manage its research network. 

Neo4j announced a $325 million Series F funding round. 

Immersive Labs announced it closed a Series C funding round with $75 million in investments from Insight Partners, Menlo Ventures, Citi Ventures, and Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

IBM acquired Turbonomic, an ARM and NPM software provider.

Lexion closed its Series A funding round with $11 million in investments from Khosla Ventures, Madrona Venture Group, and Wilson Sonsini.

Grafana Labs acquired k6, an open source load testing tool for engineering teams. 

Core BTS announced its acquisition of Aptera Software.

JFrog acquired Vdoo, an Israeli-based product security company.

Mapped, an AI-powered data infrastructure platform, closed its seed II funding round with $6.5 million in investments, bringing total investments to $9.5 million.

Sevco Security announced a $15 million Series A funding round led by SYN Ventures.  

Cisco completed its acquisition of Kenna Security. 

SentinelOne has applied to list its Class A common stock on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “S.” The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering have not yet been determined. 

Noname Security closed its Series B funding round with $60 million in investments, bringing its total funding to $85 million.

Versa Networks secured $84 million in its Series D funding round.

LogicMonitor announced its acquisition of Dexda, a machine learning predictive identification company.

SentinelOne announced the pricing of its initial public offering of 35 million shares of its Class A common stock at a public offering price of $35 per share. 

Hewlett Packard Enterprise entered into an agreement to acquire Zerto.

QTS Realty Trust announced it will be acquired by Blackstone Funds for $10 billion.
