Intel's $5.4B Tower Semiconductor Buy Satiates Legacy Chip DemandIntel expanded its manufacturing empire with a $5.4 billion acquisition of Israel-based foundry operator Tower Semiconductor.
“Tower’s specialty technology portfolio, geographic reach, deep customer relationships, and services first operations will help scale Intel’s foundry services and advance our goal of becoming a major provider of foundry capacity,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in a statement.
Tower Semiconductor specializes in radio frequency, power, silicon-germanium, and industrial sensors. The company also has extensive intellectual property holdings and well established electronic design automation partnerships.
The acquisition is the latest feather in Intel’s foundry cap and addresses the need for trailing-edge semiconductor capacity commonly used in automotive and industrial applications, GlobalData analyst David Bicknell wrote in a research note.
Snyk Scoops Up Fugue, Eyes $77.5B Cloud Security MarketSnyk stands poised to move its developer-focused security platform into the larger cloud security market, forecast to reach $77.5 billion by 2026, with its acquisition of Fugue.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
Fugue is a cloud security posture management (CSPM) vendor, and in October it rolled out a unified policy engine that connects cloud posture back to configuration code, using one set of policies to manage compliance and security throughout the entire software development lifecycle. In an earlier interview, Fugue co-founder and CEO Josh Stella said the unified policy engine can ensure cloud security across development and operations using 50% fewer engineering resources.
These capabilities will extend Snyk’s Developer Security Platform and enable what it calls “the industry’s first CSPM designed by and for developers.”
