McAfee today rolled out a new cloud-native app security service. It’s called Mvision Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP), and it includes data protection, threat prevention, governance, and compliance for container and OS-based workloads.
The security vendor says Mvision CNAPP converges application and data context awareness with cloud security posture management (CSPM) for public cloud infrastructure, and cloud workload protection platform to protect applications distributed across virtual machines, compute instances, and containers.
The platform discovers all workloads, data, and infrastructure and prioritizes security risk based on misconfigurations, software vulnerabilities, and sensitive data. It also provides automated assessment across virtual machines, containers, and developer pipelines.
For workload protection, it introduces a new, lightweight agent to support ephemeral workloads. This enables application allow listing, workload hardening, integrity monitoring, and detection of anomalous behavior to access application risk.
Additionally, the new McAfee app security service enables in-tenant data loss prevention scanning, which can help with cost optimization and data privacy regulations, and it maps out cloud native threats to the MITRE ATT&CK framework for cloud-based security.
McAfee Touts Integrated Platform for App SecurityEnterprise infrastructure spans public cloud and private data centers, and they want consistent security posture across these hybrid environments, McAfee Chief Product Officer Shishir Singh said in a statement. “Mvision CNAPP delivers an integrated platform to secure modern cloud native applications to accelerate enterprise digital transformation journey,” he added.
The new McAfee app security service also reflects the growing need to secure cloud-native applications while consolidating security tools.
“Enterprise cybersecurity programs need to evolve to secure a growing footprint of cloud-native applications and infrastructure, a sentiment shared by 88% of respondents who participated in research recently completed by ESG,” said Doug Cahill, VP and group director of ESG’s cybersecurity practice, in a statement. “To do so, 73% of organizations cited a preference for a consolidated set of the controls based on an integrated platform for breadth of coverage and depth of functionality.”
McAfee's app security push follows a recent boost to its secure access service edge (SASE) platform that saw the vendor add integrations with three zero-trust network access vendors. It also follows a surprise announcement earlier this month that McAfee will sell its enterprise security business to Symphony Technology Group for $4 billion and pivot to a pure-play consumer cybersecurity company.
