Masergy is adding a new software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) option to its software-defined platform, and this time the company built the technology itself in-house, according to a Masergy spokesperson.

Last year, Masergy announced that it developed a managed SD-WAN service with Silver Peak, which integrated into its platform called SD-WAN Pro. Now, its own SD-WAN technology, dubbed SD-WAN Go, is supposed to complement that.

Developed in just 10 weeks, SD-WAN Go is built for customers that don’t want to fully commit to SD-WAN but want to save costs and improve their networks’ performance. It allows customers to implement the technology in as few as a single branch office to get started.

SD-WAN Go allows companies to use new or existing connections — MPLS, broadband, or 4G — to route data across the Internet and over its platform. Masergy’s platform offers WAN optimization, centralized policy, and zero-touch provisioning. It also offers connectivity to major public cloud services including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and IBM’s BlueMix. The technology can only be deployed on-premises via a small physical appliance, the spokesperson said.

The other option is Silver Peak’s technology, which is a more complete service with more features and higher performance. In addition to the features listed above, it also offers application-based routing, dynamic path control, and embedded analytics. However, both are fully managed services that can be integrated with Masergy’s hybrid networking portfolio.

SD-WAN Go is currently available globally.
