Lumentum Holdings Inc. and Marvell Technology, Inc. have announced a demonstration of an integrated optical technology solution set to take place at the 2025 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition (OFC) in San Francisco. The demonstration features Lumentum’s 450G PAM4 distributed feedback (DFB) laser, which incorporates a Mach-Zehnder (MZI) modulator utilizing differentiated indium phosphide (InP) technology, in conjunction with Marvell’s 400G PAM4 technology operating at 225 Gbaud.

This collaboration aims to advance high-bandwidth, low-power optical solutions targeting the needs of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning applications as well as cloud infrastructure. According to Matt Sysak, Lumentum’s CTO of Cloud and Networking, the partnership with Marvell signals a commitment to enhancing 400G per lane technology beyond silicon photonics offerings.

Marvell’s vice president Xi Wang expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the technological advancements will support increased bandwidth capacity and efficiency in future data centers. The integrated optical transmitter showcased in this demonstration represents a potential milestone in preparing the infrastructure for future 3.2 terabits per second optical transceivers crucial for expanding AI and cloud workloads.
