The Linux Foundation hired Sheryl Chamberlain to fill the newly-created position of chief of staff. She’ll oversee operational activities for the foundation and be the point of contact between executive management and stakeholders in its numerous open source projects.

Previously, Chamberlain was a partner VP at the consulting company Capgemini where she led activities to assist Dell Technologies. Prior to joining Capgemini, she worked at EMC in a variety of roles, including chief operations officer in the corporate office of the CTO.

At the Linux Foundation, Chamberlain will help take the organization’s knowledge on topics such as governance, development processes, community outreach, and intellectual property management and share it across projects.

Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, said in a statement, “We’re excited to welcome Sheryl at a time when The Linux Foundation is expanding the number of projects we’re hosting as well as the breadth of services we’re providing.”

The Linux Foundation does seem to be on a roll. In the past few months it’s added several new projects. Earlier this month it announced the new Streaming Network Analytics System (SNAS.io) initiative, which aims to boost access to real-time analytics.

In late April it launched EdgeX Foundry, related to the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing.

And in early April it added the Free Range Routing (FRR) project and the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) project. FRR is an IP routing protocol suite for the Linux and Unix platforms. DPDK consists of libraries to accelerate packet processing workloads running on a variety of CPU architectures.

Meanwhile, the other big foundation involved in software-defined networking (SDN) and data center virtualization, the Apache Foundation, is suffering from organizational and money struggles.
