Keysight Technologies has teamed up with Samsung and NVIDIA to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model intended to enhance radio access network (RAN) performance, increase throughput, expand system capacity, and lower power consumption. This initiative aims to integrate advanced AI within Samsung's virtual RAN (vRAN) software solution and will be demonstrated at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, facilitated by the AI-RAN Alliance.
Traditional RAN performance faces challenges such as limited throughput and high latency, particularly in 5G deployments where uplink performance is critical. AI modeling presents a potential solution, allowing for accurate channel estimation and optimized resource allocation, which can lead to improved network efficiency and user experiences. For example, lab tests indicated a 30% increase in cell edge throughput when utilizing AI for channel estimation, compared to conventional methods.
The collaboration aims not only to optimize performance but also to create more energy-efficient networks. Statements from executives at Samsung, NVIDIA, and Keysight highlight the significance of advancing AI-native networks as a pivotal step toward next-generation telecommunications.
