Iridium Communications Inc. has announced a partnership with World Central Kitchen (WCK) to support food assistance efforts during crises. This collaboration will enhance WCK's ability to coordinate and deliver aid in areas affected by natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.

WCK has faced challenges due to local communication infrastructure failures in crisis situations, complicating efforts for first responders. The partnership with Iridium addresses these vulnerabilities by providing satellite-based communication services that work in remote and high-risk environments.

WCK will utilize several Iridium devices, including the Iridium GO! exec®, Iridium GO!®, and Iridium Extreme® PTT, to facilitate rapid communication during relief operations. These devices enable voice calls, messaging, and secure group communications, ensuring that WCK teams can connect with local first responders and other support personnel effectively.

“Reliable connectivity is critical for our teams to coordinate relief efforts in the most challenging environments during World Central Kitchen disaster response,” said Prianka Nandy, WCK Acting Senior Vice President for Digital & Data. “Having a range of Iridium solutions in place means that our relief teams have access to real-time communications, so they can move fast to bring meals to the communities that need them.”

Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium, emphasized the importance of reliable communication in disaster response, stating that the partnership allows WCK to better coordinate their efforts in difficult conditions. Iridium's satellite network is designed to maintain connectivity even when local telecom infrastructure is disrupted, making it valuable for organizations like WCK responding to emergencies worldwide.
