AT&T Business is expanding its fixed wireless access (FWA) ambitions with the addition of Inseego’s Wavemaker FX4200 to its portfolio of FWA devices, pairing the hardware with its AT&T Internet Air for Business service.
The deal is a step forward in AT&T’s evolving FWA strategy, which has been more selective with FWA, maintaining a fiber-first approach for long-term fixed broadband growth.
The FX4200 is designed to bridge the gap between complex enterprise wireline setups and more basic wireless solutions. The device supports multi-gig 5G connectivity where available, along with LTE fallback, and is aimed at organizations that may not have dedicated IT staff on site.
AT&T said demand is growing for FWA devices that deliver more advanced functionality while remaining easy to deploy and manage. Nazanin Hoglund, assistant vice president of mobility devices and converged products at AT&T Business, said customers want “business-grade functionality and security” without the operational burden that can come with enterprise networking equipment.
The FX4200 includes Wi-Fi 7 support for up to 256 connected devices, along with live failover and failback between wireless and wired WAN connections. An integrated battery provides more than eight hours of backup power. The device also supports zero-touch provisioning, on-device speed tests, and signal optimization features intended to shorten deployment timelines.
Management can be handled through Inseego Connect, which provides remote device management and performance insights across multiple locations.
Inseego CEO Juho Sarvikas said the company’s goal is to make enterprise wireless feel “familiar, reliable, and easy to deploy,” positioning FWA as a scalable option rather than a niche workaround. All of the FX4200’s core IP was developed at Inseego’s San Diego headquarters, according to the company.
Fixed wireless has increasingly been pitched as a secondary connection for resiliency, a primary connection for branch offices, or a rapid-connectivity option for temporary locations. Retail stores, restaurants, pop-up locations, schools, and government facilities are among the use cases AT&T and Inseego highlighted.
The FX4200 and Inseego Connect are available immediately through AT&T Business and are designed to be used with AT&T Internet Air for Business, which is sold separately.
