HP is releasing new switches and software today at Interop driven toward enhancing campus networking for the mobile-ready work environment.

The new products include HP's 5400R zl2 Switch Series v3 Modules and the HP Network Visualizer SDN App. The former is powered by the sixth generation HP Networking ASIC, made specifically for software-defined networking (SDN) environments.

HP says the new switches offer four times greater performance than other similar products, and one-third the latency.

The Network Visualizer gives IT teams real-time visibility to monitor traffic flow and mitigate any network problems, emphasizing quality-of-experience rather than the specifics of the physical network. With it, IT admins have the capability to pinpoint user complaints without having to first identify a physical location or IP address.

BYOD and the Internet of Things (IoT) have brought innovation to the workplace, but also have brought the necessity of delivering the mobility users depend upon. "Enterprise has embraced mobility at a rapid pace," says Dominic Wilde, vice president of global product line management at HP. "The total number of mobile users is going to reach 2 billion by 2018." This surge means campus networking products aimed at mobile integration are a must.

Also announced: advances to HP's Network Protector and Network Optimizer SDN applications. The security aspect will now feature intrusion detection system (IDS) as-a-service and deliver business level policy across wired and wireless networks, while the Network Optimizer has media path optimization and traffic periodization based on the user or device.

The new switches will be available May 1, and the Network Visualizer SDN app will be made available in June.
