The Swiss pharmaceutical company FarmaMondo has enhanced its IT infrastructure through the implementation of Hitachi Vantara's Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One). This upgrade aims to improve performance, scalability, and sustainability across its global operations.
FarmaMondo specializes in supplying specialty pharmaceuticals, particularly “Unlicensed Medicines” that are not commercially available but prescribed by doctors under certain circumstances. With a growth rate of 30 to 40% annually and operations in over 20 countries, the company required a robust IT infrastructure to meet its increasing data management demands.
Previously, FarmaMondo's IT infrastructure had reached its performance and capacity limits, and outdated storage solutions had jeopardized operational efficiency and sustainability goals. The transition to the VSP One platform promises high performance, energy efficiency, and advanced data protection features, which are all crucial for FarmaMondo's continued success.
Antonio Adorno, IT Manager at FarmaMondo, stated, “Our offices around the world need to be able to access central IT systems around the clock; downtime is not an option for us. With the new infrastructure, we guarantee high performance, maximum scalability, and continuous availability - all with lower energy consumption. This not only makes our IT more efficient but also more sustainable.”
The migration project not only included upgrading to NVMe technology but also involved moving VMware and SAP applications and databases to the new storage landscape. This transition has reportedly increased batch processing speed significantly, with some tasks completing three times faster than before.
Michael Roth, Managing Director for Switzerland and Austria at Hitachi Vantara, expressed pride in supporting FarmaMondo, emphasizing the importance of strong partnerships in overcoming IT challenges and delivering robust solutions. As FarmaMondo continues to grow, the implementation of VSP One positions the company to sustain its supply of vital medicines efficiently.
