Intel Shakes Up Exec Team After 7NM Setback

Intel’s lead engineer Venkata Renduchintala left the company after CEO Bob Swan announced sweeping changes to its leadership team. The news came less than a week after Intel revealed its next-generation 7-nanometer chips were behind schedule as a result of a flaw in the manufacturing process.

Renduchintala joined Intel in 2015, where he served as chief engineering officer and group president of the Technology, Systems Architecture, and Client Group (TSCG). Renduchintala’s departure is the result of a broader overhaul of that group. As part of the restructure, Intel will break up the TSCG into five teams all reporting directly to Swan.

Under the new structure, Ann Kelleher, who currently serves as SVP and GM of manufacturing and operations at Intel, will head up the development of 7-nanometer and 5-nanometer processes under the newly formed Technology Development division. Manufacturing and operations will be handed off to Keyvan Esfarjani, who most recently led manufacturing for Intel’s Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group.

Design engineering will fall on the shoulders of Josh Walden, SVP and GM of Intel’s Product Assurance and Security (IPAS), while the chipmaker searches for a permanent design lead. During this time, the IPAS team will continue to report to Walden.
