Globalstar, Inc. has introduced a two-way satellite IoT solution via its low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation. This new platform facilitates low-power communication, enabling applications like fleet tracking, asset monitoring, and disaster communications.
The RM200M module, described as the first satellite module with integrated GNSS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, and application processor, moves beyond the company's previous offerings, which only supported one-way tracking. CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs stated, “Until now, Globalstar's 500,000+ deployed active units have been only able to support one way tracking and telemetry applications.” He highlighted the company's efficient cost structure bolstered by investments in the consumer wholesale sector.
The key features of the RM200M module include:
- The first satellite module with integrated GNSS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, and apps processor
- A single-stack chipset for hardware consolidation and cost savings
- Affordable global LEO satellite connectivity
- Support for Edge computing
- Future-proofed for cellular connectivity
Lasso Technologies, a company in tank monitoring solutions, has already utilized the RM200M module to enhance its product offerings. Beta customer Lasso reported quick deployment times using the module within their systems. CEO Peter McCormick commented, “This module is simple, straightforward, and easy to work with – we had it up and running right away.”
TGI Connect, a transportation technology provider, is also exploring new opportunities with the RM200M module. The company aims to expand into temperature monitoring trailer markets and provide satellite connectivity for compliance in off-grid tractors. CEO Bill Wright noted, “The RM200M gives us a simple yet powerful way to expand into new markets with minimal development time.”
Globalstar's deployment of its two-way satellite IoT solution may enable improvements across various industries by offering reliable, global connectivity.
