GCT Semiconductor Holding Inc. has signed a definitive agreement with a European tier one wireless infrastructure provider to advance the development of its 5G Fixed-wireless access (FWA) technology. This collaboration is expected to enhance GCT's position in the growing 5G market.
The partnership builds on an earlier memorandum of understanding (MOU) established in August 2024, marking a continuation of GCT's relationship with the Tier One Supplier as it transitions to 5G technologies. The company anticipates launching FWA devices in the latter half of 2025.
“This collaboration is a major milestone and reinforces the momentum we are gaining in solidifying customer engagement and strengthening client relationships for growth as we prepare for our 5G chipset launch,” said GCT CEO John Schlaefer.
FWA technology is seen as a cost-effective alternative to traditional wired broadband, providing reliable connectivity, particularly in underserved areas. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report from June 2024, the number of 5G FWA connections is projected to grow over 800% from ~30 million to ~280 million by the end of 2029.
GCT specializes in developing advanced semiconductor solutions for 5G and 4G LTE and expects to leverage its expertise to capture significant market opportunities in the future.
