Fastly announced an update to its Bot Management platform that reduces the reliance on CAPTCHAs while enhancing bot detection and credential security. This update aims to help organizations combat threats such as scraping, account takeovers, and spam, ultimately improving user experiences and conversion rates.

Fastly’s new features include Dynamic Challenges, which adjust the method of validating traffic; Advanced Client-Side Detection, designed to identify sophisticated bots that mimic legitimate users; and Compromised Credential Checking, which scans login attempts against known compromised accounts. Kip Compton, Chief Product Officer at Fastly, stated, “Security teams shouldn’t have to choose between blocking malicious bots and frustrating customers. This update allows users to move freely, while bad actors get stopped in their tracks.”

The Dynamic Challenges feature offers a flexible approach to verify users without traditional CAPTCHAs, increasing security without harming the user experience. Advanced Client-Side Detection, implemented with minimal code, helps organizations recognize and block advanced bots. Compromised Credential Checking strengthens security by providing real-time alerts on login attempts from compromised accounts.

Christopher Rodriguez, Research Director at IDC, noted that as bots become more sophisticated, organizations must balance security with user experience. Fastly's updates support this goal while offering a developer-focused approach to detection and response. Fastly Bot Management is accessible to all customers.
