Newly appointed Ericsson CEO Per Narvinger rolled out a restructure to the vendor’s enterprise network and Asia-focused market leadership, moves that will result in some executives being removed from their current leadership positions and marking a new term for the vendor following the recent CEO shuffle/
Ericsson is moving its current Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS) group to other parts of the organization. This move will see its Neutral Host and Private 5G groups moved into Ericsson’s Business Area Networks organization, moves the vendor said will consolidate areas working with indoor technology.
Ericsson’s Wireless WAN business will remain a standalone operation reporting to Yossi Cohen, head of Ericsson’s Market Area Americas group. “This will enable closer collaboration with key customers and strengthen the ability to execute on the growth strategy,” the vendor noted in a statement on the move.
That reporting change will see Åsa Tamsons, current head of Ericsson’s Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions group, transition from that position at year-end. That transition also seems to indicate a move from Ericsson’s ever-fluctuating “executive team” roster.
“We are strengthening our focus on seamless connectivity and want to make sure that we can offer a rich portfolio that leverages the full R&D competence in the company and meets both CSP and enterprise demand,” Narvinger noted of the moves. “Åsa has been instrumental in creating new channels to enterprises for our portfolio, which now enables us to take the next step in developing our indoor and enterprise business. She has also been an important change leader in the company, serving on the executive team and successfully leading multiple businesses since 2018. I am grateful for her many contributions.”
Market area changes
Ericsson is also combining its current Market Area North East Asia and Market Area South East Asia, Oceania, and India markets into a single Market Area Asia-Pacific segment beginning next year. Patrick Johansson, who is currently head of Market Area Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), will head up that newly established group, with Ericsson stating plans to initiate a search for a new Market Area EMEA head.
Chafic Nassif, who is currently head of Market Area North East Asia, and Andres Vicente, head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania, and India, will be removed from those positions at year-end, and like Tamsons leaving Ericsson’s executive team.
“Chafic has been with Ericsson for more than 16 years and has contributed greatly to the company in the different roles he has had across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. I especially want to thank him for his time on the executive team where he has played an important role for our business in North East Asia,” Narvinger noted. “Andres has a deep understanding of commercial aspects of our industry where he has drawn on his extensive experience from working in Europe and Asia. He has been important in the development of our position in the market area. I would like to extend my gratitude for his efforts.”
Narvinger’s shakeup comes just weeks after taking over from Börje Ekholm, who left that position on October 1 after nine years in the CEO role and is set to fully leave the company by mid-2027.
The enterprise-specific changes also follow an executive shuffle earlier this year that had the Swedish telecom vendor name Christophe Van de Weyer as head of its business area global communications platform and CEO of its Vonage division and given a seat on Ericsson’s executive team. Van de Weyer replaced long-standing Ericsson executive Niklas Heuveldop, who had served as Vonage CEO for more than two years, with previous stints as CEO of Ericsson North America and chief strategy officer for the vendor’s emerging business unit.
