Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud have entered into a partnership aimed at enhancing Radio Access Network (RAN) operations with the introduction of a network AI agent called the RAN Guardian. The agent, built on Google Cloud's Gemini 2.0 in Vertex AI, is designed to analyze network behavior, identify performance issues, and execute corrective actions to improve reliability and customer experience.
As telecommunications networks grow more complex, traditional automation methods are insufficient for addressing real-time challenges. The RAN Guardian agent employs large language models and advanced reasoning frameworks to operate autonomously, allowing it to detect network anomalies and adapt to optimize performance. “Traditional network management approaches are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of 5G and beyond,” stated Abdu Mudesir, Group CTO at Deutsche Telekom. He noted the collaboration with Google Cloud aims to introduce a new level of intelligence into RAN operations.
This AI agent utilizes Google Cloud services, such as CloudRun and BigQuery, and offers features including real-time performance monitoring, AI-driven issue classification, and proactive network optimization recommendations. “By combining Deutsche Telekom's deep telecom expertise with Google Cloud's AI capabilities, we're building the next generation of intelligent networks,” said Angelo Libertucci, global industry lead at Google Cloud. This initiative is expected to lead to fewer service disruptions, faster network speeds, and an overall enhanced mobile experience for customers.
Both companies are scheduled to showcase these developments at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), where Mudesir and Google Cloud's Muninder Sambi will discuss the role of AI agents in the future of network operations.
