D-Wave Quantum Inc. reports an increase in adoption of its quantum optimization technology among end users, independent software vendors, system integrators and resellers. At the Qubits 2025 user conference, D-Wave introduced updates to its hybrid quantum solvers and expanding use cases, reflecting demand for quantum optimization solutions.
Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, stated that organizations are facing limitations with legacy computing solutions in addressing complex optimization problems, which is propelling a new market category—quantum optimization. At Qubits 2025, the company showcased technical advances and customer successes.
The hybrid quantum nonlinear (NL) solver now supports continuous variables, allowing for the addressing of new use cases such as budget allocation and resource distribution. Previously constrained problems can now also be submitted to the NL solver.
The company is broadening its list of quantum optimization use cases, including previously announced applications like workforce scheduling and production scheduling. New use cases introduced are:
- Offer allocation: Companies can optimize offers while balancing budget constraints and historical data to enhance acceptance rates.
- Portfolio optimization: Financial firms can refine strategies to maximize returns within constraints such as regulatory compliance.
- Maintenance repair operations (MRO) optimization: The benefits of quantum optimization in MRO logistics are being explored to reduce time and costs associated with maintenance and repair.
Escolástico Sánchez Martínez, head of quantum at BBVA, mentioned the combination of quantum optimization and machine learning to improve portfolio management under changing macroeconomic conditions.
Adoption of D-Wave’s quantum optimization technology continues to grow across various sectors, with users sharing their experiences at Qubits 2025. Organizations such as Davidson Technologies and NTT DOCOMO Inc. will detail their usage of D-Wave's technology, with NTT discussing its hybrid quantum solution for mobile network optimization, achieving a decrease in congestion at base stations.
Takatoshi Okagawa from NTT DOCOMO highlighted the operational improvements and network efficiency achieved through D-Wave's hybrid technology.
Additionally, Ford Otosan announced deployment of a hybrid-quantum application for manufacturing processes, streamlining operations for their Ford Transit line.
