CrowdStrike poached Cisco and Palo Alto Networks alumni AJ Shipley as its new chief product officer (CPO).
While the announcement was made Wednesday, Shipley joined the security vendor in May. In a LinkedIn post this week, Shipley wrote: "For over a decade, no cybersecurity company has lived up to their mission statement of stopping breaches more than CrowdStrike. ... I look forward to partnering with all of the brilliant minds there and continuing the mission of stopping breaches and enabling the defenders in the ongoing battle against cyber attacks."
Shipley previously served at Cisco as CPO and VP for Splunk Security. His five-year-plus stint began in 2020 at Splunk, overlapping with Cisco's 2024 acquisition of the observability platform.
According to his LinkedIn, the exec was responsible for products such as Splunk Enterprise Security (SIEM), advanced malware protection sandboxing, and Cisco's endpoint detection and response (EDR) and extended detection and response (XDR) offerings.
Shipley previously worked at Cisco from 2000 to 2012. Starting at the networking giant as a technical security lead, he became its senior product line manager in 2012.
CrowdStrike's new CPO also served as senior director of product management at Wind River between 2012 and 2014, with a similar role at NetApp between 2014 and 2015.
Shipley would then work VP roles at Agari and Looking Glass before serving as VP for product marketing at Palo Alto Networks between 2019 and 2020.
In a statement on his latest role, CrowsdStrike CEO George Kurtz commented: "As the pioneer of EDR, we are uniquely positioned to capture the greatest tailwind cybersecurity has ever seen: securing the AI enterprises deploy. AJ is one of the most accomplished builders in our industry, and he is the right leader to seize an opportunity this large."
