Cato Networks today rolled out security information and event management (SIEM), which it's calling Instant*Insight, to its secure access service edge (SASE) platform.

Instant*Insight promises to help customers organize and leverage networking and security events by tracking them in a single query-able timeline.

According to Cato, the network visibility enabled by its SASE architecture — which stitches together elements of edge computing, security, wide-area networking (WAN), and a series of other features into a single cloud-managed package — is key to Instant*Insight's effectiveness. Because of this, all network and security events are already stored in a common place.

“From its founding, Cato realized that converging networking and security into the cloud would simplify all aspects of networking," said Shlomo Kramer, CEO and co-founder of Cato Networks, in a statement. "Cato Instant*Insight attests to that vision. With our SASE platform, we’re able to deliver the kind of visibility out-of-the-box that previously required extensive custom integration and development.”

In addition to reduced complexity over traditional SIEM products, Instant*Insight claims automated data aggregation and search tools designed to make querying that pool of data faster and easier.

"IT teams can quickly filter the millions of networking and security events tracked by Cato to arrive at root cause," the company claimed in a prepared statement.

Alongside these features, Instant*Insight also packs built-in data mining features which, according to Cato, eliminate the need for additional data analysis tools.

Cato envisions several applications for Instant*Insight including threat detection and diagnosis, and resolution of network disruptions.

According to Cato, a security operations team could use Instant*Insight to identify the uniform predictable communications associated with bot traffic by reviewing the entire communication exchange between clients and suspicious targets. Instant*Insight could also be used to resolve intermittent networking issues like periodic loss of connectivity, the company explained.

The new features provided by the SIEM will be offered as part of the company's SASE services at no additional cost.
