Arista Networks has refreshed its executive lineup as the network provider sharpens its focus on cloud and AI.

Co-founder and CTO Kenneth Duda was elevated by the company to president, while the new role of senior VP of cloud and AI networking will be taken up by Tyson Lamoreaux.

Duda’s promotion sees the exec oversee cloud and AI systems engineering alongside business development. Since co-founding the company in 2004, Duda has served as both CTO and head of engineering for Arista. His CTO title will remain in place under the new position.

He will share the president role with COO Todd Nightingale after the company amended its bylaws to allow the president position to be held by more than one person.

Meanwhile, Lamoreaux joins the firm from the entrepreneur network, Stealth Startup, where he served as EVP for over two and a half years.

Previously, he served as vice president for software, network, and infrastructure services at Amazon’s nascent satellite unit, Project Kuiper. According to Arista, Lamoreaux was instrumental in setting up the network, software systems, and ground infrastructure for Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) broadband satellite constellation.

Lamoreaux’s career began at Amazon in 1996, where he took various roles before settling on systems and network engineering in 2000, ultimately assuming a manager role in 2008.

In 2011, he became senior manager for data center network engineering at Amazon Web Services (AWS). His career at the hyperscaler saw him lead as director for AWS Network in 2014, before becoming senior vice president in 2018. He would move onto Kuiper Systems, commonly known as Project Kuiper, in its inception year of 2019.

Arista said both positions highlight the importance of AI and cloud for the company, with a view to “capture the next wave of growth in enterprise and hyperscale networking.”

The firm acquired Broadcom’s VeloCloud SD-WAN platform in July to boost its footprint in the SD-WAN space. The company then pushed ahead with a $1 billion Indian expansion, with the company building out what it describes as “AI for networking centers of excellence,” with India among one of its target markets.

Arista also recently updated its Extensible Operating System (EOS), adding a network software solution that optimizes the performance and reliability of large-scale AI and machine learning (ML) clusters.
