Arista Networks rolled out updates to its multicloud and cloud-native networking software and added an edge component with CloudEOS Edge.

The networking vendor initially released CloudEOS last November. The software enables cloud networking infrastructure as code across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and it’s based on Aritsa’s EOS operating system. Now, with CloudEOS Edge, Arista supports dynamic path selection services across these cloud providers at the network edge facing the internet as well as private and public carriers.

CloudEOS Edge also integrates with AWS Transit Gateway, which automates provisioning and multicloud routing, as well as Arista’s CloudVision software. This integration with Arista’s cloud management software “provides several critical functions: provisioning, software lifecycle management, vulnerability and defect compliance and management, central point of administration and automation, time-series telemetry state storage and analytics, and workflow orchestration,” said Doug Gourlay, VP and GM of cloud networking software at Arista.

Plus, it gives enterprises centralized visibility of their multicloud environments via a central dashboard.

Pay-As-You-Go for CloudEOS

In addition to the edge software, Arista now offers a pay-as-you-go pricing for CloudEOS across AWS, Azure, and GCP. And it announced CloudEOS Terraform provider, which allows software-defined provisioning of multicloud backbones through Hashicorp Terraform and Arista CloudVision.

Meanwhile, the company continues to integrate technology from its Big Switch Networks into its software portfolio, Gourlay said. “The Converged Cloud Fabric and DANZ monitoring fabric capabilities, which came into Arista through the Big Switch acquisition, are part of the Arista Cloud Networking Software portfolio and are carefully being integrated with other Arista products and offerings,” he wrote in an email to SDxCentral.

On the company’s fourth-quarter 2019 earnings call, CEO Jayshree Ullal said Arista would use the SDN startup’s network monitoring tools to boost its DANZ switch monitoring capabilities. Big Switch’s workload monitoring fabric enables centralized packet and flow-based monitoring across public, private, and hybrid clouds.

Ullal said during Arista's Q1 2020 earning call in May that the vendor saw “early traction and complementarity with Arista’s data analyzer DANZ offering and entering into the network packet broker space.”
