Arista Networks is adding its DANZ monitoring capabilities to its R-Series of switches.

The company first rolled out DANZ in 2013, and not much has been heard about it since. But Arista says the 2017 version of the technology now supports its R-Series Universal Leaf and Spine, which is its combined switching/routing platform.

Previously DANZ supported the company’s 7150 switches.

“We’re bringing it to more generally applicable hardware platforms,” says Joe Hielscher, Arista’s director of strategic technologies.

The analysis technology is a feature set in the company’s Extensible Operating System (EOS) software.

"Arista’s EOS runs on every discrete device,” says Jeff Raymond, Arista’s VP of EOS products and services. “Those feature sets are sometimes routing, sometimes switching, sometimes security. We consider DANZ as one of the feature sets on the EOS.”

As for why Arista is beefing up its analytics on the R-Series, Hielscher says, “It comes down to the heightened focus on security and service availability.” Customers are interested in securing their cloud services and ensuring capacity.

Arista has put a focus on monitoring and visibility of late. In August 2016, it announced its CloudVision for automation and telemetry. Cloud Vision takes state data from every EOS device and aggregates it for a network-wide vision.

CloudVision, together with the Arista 7500R and 7280R Series (with DANZ), delivers integrated in-band and out-of-band security insertion and advanced telemetry and analytics.
