Airspan Networks Holdings LLC has announced a definitive agreement to acquire the wireless business of Corning Incorporated. The transaction, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.
Corning’s wireless business includes its 6000 and 6200 distributed antenna systems and its SpiderCloud 4G and 5G small cell radio access network products. Airspan plans to combine these products with its own small cells for neutral-host coverage and private networks to enhance its in-building wireless solutions.
According to Airspan, over 70% of mobile data usage occurs inside buildings, making in-building connectivity crucial. The acquisition positions Airspan as a prominent supplier within this segment. Corning's wireless business boasts over 10,000 installations and established relationships with major mobile operators and enterprise customers.
Glenn Laxdal, President and CEO of Airspan, stated, “This acquisition is a strategic step for Airspan, reinforcing our leadership in in-building connectivity and expanding our ability to serve enterprises and mobile network operators.” He emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring business continuity for existing customers during the integration process.
Airspan has indicated that customers will continue to receive support for existing deployments while also benefiting from new solutions post-acquisition.
