Accenture and Pivotal Software formed a new business group to help enterprises migrate legacy applications to the cloud. The companies plan to open two support locations by the end of the year.
The Accenture Pivotal Business Group (APBG) facilities will be located in Columbus, Ohio, and New York City. They will be dedicated spaces where Accenture consultants will help large companies migrate their business onto Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) — Pivotal’s open source cloud native platform — and develop new cloud-native applications on PCF.
PCF allows companies to deploy applications to multiple cloud platforms, both private and public, as well as on bare-metal servers, with no changes to the application.
APBG stems from “market demand we’re hearing from Fortune 500 companies to help them build greenfield applications and modernize their technology,” said Michele Perras, director for global ecosystem and alliances at Pivotal.
Accenture and Pivotal have already begun work with “around a half-dozen” companies in the banking and insurance sectors, Perras said. The partners plan to open additional locations in over the next two years. Perras wouldn't say how much money they expect to invest in the joint effort.
Pivotal customers include Hulu, GE, Southwest, Mercedes-Benz, and Verizon. The company claims that more than one-third of the Fortune 100 use PCF.
Scaling Pivotal Cloud FoundryPivotal has also been building a number of strategic partnerships in recent years to grow PCF adoption. Over the summer, Rackspace began offering a managed version of PCF. Pivotal also has an agreement with Cognizant, under which the services firm trains consultants and customers on PCF.
Late last year Pivotal and Google Cloud partnered on Kubo, a joint effort to bring the multi-cloud deployment capabilities of PCF to Kubernetes clusters.
The joint business with Accenture, which is said to work with more than three-quarters of the Fortune Global 500, expands PFC’s reach, Perras said.
“We’ve been really developing our product and gaining market maturity over the last couple years,” Perras said. We want to be able to scale [PCF] and reach as many customers as we can to enable the cloud adoption they want to do. Accenture provides us with the ability to scale quickly and efficiently, moving into markets where they already have influence and access to, and sit at the table with them going forward.”
