The deal will combine SUSE’s enterprise portfolio that is focused on Linux, edge computing, and artificial intelligence with Rancher Labs’ Kubernetes management platform.
Forrester Research Senior Analyst John Bratincevic said the launch is significant for AWS and the broader market, but added that this initial release is “immature.”
The platform is designed to allow telecom operators to maintain more control over their edge deployments and the applications running over those networks.
The updates follow a move by Chef last year to revamp its development, platforms, and go-to-market strategy to more fully embrace the open source community.
