Finally, a week not dominated by security startups.  This week's theme is photonics.  For those who don't know, phonics are a branch of optics.  Optics are key high-speed, low-latency networking,  Think networking for AI.  They are critical components for quantum computing.  Lets get a bit nerdy. According to Wikipedia, “photonics is closely related to quantum electronics, where quantum electronics deals with the theoretical part of it while photonics deal with its engineering applications.”

If you're running large data centers or connecting dispersed locations with high bandwidth connections, photonics are hugely important. We are adding them to the directory, because the importance of photonics is only going to increase -- meaning your need to research them is increasing.  We also have a few edge and silicon companies added this week. Check them out below.

Reader questions: will technology service providers be added to the directory?

We received a number of inquiries this week asking if we would add managed services providers (MSP), managed security service providers (manage security services provider (MSSP)) and global system integrators (systems-integrator) to the directory.  The short answer is, yes. The longer answer is we need to define an objective standard as to what needs to be true for a company to qualify as an MSP, MSSP,or SI to be included in the directory.  I suspect this will include a minimum annual revenue, a detailing of geographic service delivery (i.e. what geographic locations do you sell your services to), and target customer size (as an example, SDxCentral's audience primarily works at organizations with 1,000+ employees; so adding an MSSP targeting companies with 100 people wouldn't be relevant).  If you have ideas on how we should do this, please drop me a LinkedIn message.

The SDxCentral Directory includes more than 1,750 companies (and growing) in the infrastructure sector.  The directory is a free resource for IT decision-makers to research and stay current on their current and prospective vendors so they can make informed decisions.

How can my company be added to the SDxCentral Directory?

If your company is not listed and you think it should be or is not classified as you'd expect, please drop me a direct message on LinkedIn and we'll review and approve if appropriate.  Our purpose-built AI-driven platform, trained by our industry experts and private large language models (LLM), classifies companies based on knowledge and information we have about your company relative to the rest of the market.

One reason IT decision-makers at enterprises, government agencies, service providers and hyperscalers visit SDxCentral is to stay current and make decisions on which technologies and vendors are right for their environment.  If you have suggestions for how to make the directory — and these articles — more relevant to you, please drop me a message.
