Not a week goes by when we don't add at least one security startup to the directory. It's not surprising as there is tons of innovation occurring in the security sector. However, we're also building up our list of generative artificial intelligence (AI) companies and the silicon companies creating the infrastructure to support AI. Given my networking roots, I was thrilled to see we added a company in network automation.
The most interesting trend that I'm taking away is how every week there's a new edge computing company added to the list. It feels like 2024 is the year edge companies start to break out. In the past, “edge” was a blur of multi-access edge computing (MEC), edge networking, which was originally linked to Wi-Fi and strange edge computing devices that were ruggedized servers, among other things. Today, it's about special-purpose hardware for AI inferencing, managing a distributed edge compute environment from BIOS to applications, managing and connecting IIOT devices or fleets of devices, building the private, and semi-private networks, and integrating all of this securely into your overall of IT environment. Like cloud, data centers, networks and security — we are seeing edge become a critical element to drive business outcomes making it an increasingly important topic for infrastructure LEOs.
