SoftFIRE is an experimental platform (a federated testbed) made available to programmers and organizations interested in the development of new solutions in the areas of Software Defined Networks and Network Function Virtualisation.
The federated testbed is a step towards the creation of a new network experimental infrastructure that could be used as an initial 5G oriented platform targeting virtualization, programmability and security features.
SoftFIRE focuses on NFV/SDN aiming at creating a secure, interoperable and programmable experimental infrastructure within FIRE+. The Project is federating experimental testbeds that will result in an infrastructure that Third Parties can use to develop new services and applications. The federation is a fundamental step towards the creation of a network experimental infrastructure that anticipates 5G.
Three key elements are assessed by SoftFIRE: programmability, interoperability and security. Several Open Calls for experimentation will be executed and several events like Hackathons will be organised.
