Serving as the connection hub for multi-access interconnectivity, the underlying architecture of the packet core is vital for the economics of diverse ultra-broadband and IoT/MTC services and applications. The Nokia cloud-native packet core design goes beyond virtualization to deliver the massive scalability, performance, flexibility and reliability to handle any application requirement. When software functions are broken down into smaller and independently scalable processes, compute resources are used more efficiently. Coupled with other cloud-native attributes, such as a common data layer and state-efficient processing, operators can maximize performance and reduce their Total Cost of Ownership.
The Nokia mobile transport portfolio has been optimized for 10Gbps cell site connections, up from the previous 1Gbps interfaces which have dominated 2G/3G and LTE backhaul deployments to date. The portfolio has been optimized for high availability, with enhanced product capabilities, including timing, synchronization, OAM, and support for latency-sensitive Ethernet ‘fronthaul’. This complements our existing CPRI-based fronthaul options.
